Brent Jones steps down from role as Troy Athletic Director
Brent Jones, who has served as Senior Vice Chancellor and Athletics Director at Troy University since 2019, has been named Associate Vice President / Executive Deputy Athletics Director at Georgia Tech.
“It is with mixed emotions that we witness the departure of Brent Jones as Athletics Director of Troy University,” Troy Chancellor Dr. Jack Hawkins, Jr., said. “I am grateful for the outstanding leadership he has provided our staff and student athletes. His experience has prepared him for the next step in his promising career journey. Brent and his family have become valued members of our community. I am proud of and for him, and I shall miss him.”
Jones’ eight-plus years working in Troy Athletics, including the last six as the Athletics Director, have been some of the most successful in department history in terms of on-field success, revenue generation, philanthropic giving, community engagement and academic success.
“It has been a great honor to serve Troy University and establish relationships with all of the amazing people that make this place so special over the last eight and a half years,” Jones said. “I want to personally thank Chancellor Jack Hawkins, Jr., for his vision, leadership, support and friendship that he has provided me throughout my tenure.
“Additionally, I would like to thank the entire Troy community, university leadership, the Board of Trustees, our coaches, staff, student athletes, alumni and fans. All of these incredible people are the reason we have been able to achieve so many outstanding accomplishments. The future of Troy University Athletics is extremely bright.”
During his tenure as Athletics Director, Troy has won 10 Sun Belt Conference titles, hosted a pair of Sun Belt Conference Football Championship Games, competed in the NCAA Men’s Golf NCAA Championship, played in the WNIT Championship Game and appeared in March Madness.
This past year, Troy recorded the most community service hours in department history, established the second highest GPA in school history, set all time revenue records in the form of the most development dollars ever raised in athletics history, most licensing and merchandise revenue ever recorded, the highest corporate sponsorship year and most ticketing revenue in football, basketball and baseball.
Troy Athletics has set several attendance, ticket sales, and ticket revenue records football, men’s and women’s basketball and baseball including selling out all premium ticketed areas in 2024-25 across all sports, in addition selling out Veterans Memorial Stadium (30,402) for the first time in program history, and setting all time attendance records in football and basketball.
Troy has completed several facility projects during his tenure with the department, including an indoor football practice field, renovation of Riddle-Pace Field, the grand opening of the football North End Zone Facility and new videoboard and scoreboards for Troy’s baseball, softball, tennis and soccer programs.
Deputy Director of Athletics for External Relations Kyle George will serve as the Interim Athletics Director while Troy conducts a nationwide search for its new Athletics Director.
