A man has been injured after a chase led to an officer-involved shooting in Troy.

Troy Police Chief Danny Barron says at about 9:24 last night, officers tried to pull over a vehicle on U.S. Highway 29 just north of Troy. He says the driver refused to stop and led officers on a chase to Alabama Highway 130, when police decided to end their pursuit.

Later, Barron said officers saw the vehicle at a phone on Pike County Road 6629 and made contact with the suspected driver, whom they tried to take into custody.

That’s when Barron said the suspect pulled out a gun and fired toward officers. Barron said the officers returned fire and hit the suspect.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency has identified the suspect as 29-year-old Justin Cook of Banks.

He was taken to Troy Regional Medical Center for treatment of what Barron says was a non-life threatening injury. ALEA says Cook has since been transferred to Baptist Medical Center South in Montgomery.

Barron says the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency will take over the investigation. That is standard practice for an officer-involved shooting.
