Alexander City police investigating homicide

Alexander City police are investigating the first homicide of 2026.

Police say the shooting happened on New Year’s Day at about 7:40PM. They were called to the Parkway Apartments, where they say they found 29-year-old Jarryl Slaughter suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

Slaughter was taken to Russell Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead.

Investigators are actively working to determine the circumstances surrounding this incident.
