The start of a new year is a time when people look towards the future — and set goals for making lifestyle improvements in the upcoming year.

Making resolutions is a popular tradition at the start of a new year.

Action 8 News took to the streets of Selma to find people who were willing to share theirs — with us.

“My resolution for 2026 is to live right, get right, be safe, eat health,” said Shirley McKinley.

“I’m looking to better myself in 2026 and beyond.”

“I don’t wait to the beginning of the year to make no resolutions,” said Marvin Shannon.

“I do mines through the year. And I let God, just keep God, keep faith in God and let Him make the changes.”

“Oh, mine? Be healthy,” said Patwary Nahid.

“Well. The first one is lose a little weight, lose a little stomach,” said Cedric Morton.

“The other part of it is getting out helping people and the community.”

“The new year is always time for assessment to make sure that we’re doing those things that are right and proper,” said Rev. Dr. Bruce Dozier, Sr.

“And if we would all resolve to do that in this new year going forward we will be blessed and we will be a blessing to all those who encounter us.”

Resolutions aim to put people on a path to positive change in their lives — by adopting good habits — changing bad behaviors — or achieving goals.
