CBS Sports reports that Alabama quarterback Ty Simpson will declare for the NFL Draft and not return to play for the Crimson Tide this year.
CBS Sports’ Matt Zenitz reports that Simpson is the No. 30 prospect in CBS Sports Prospect Rankings and is the No. 3 quarterback, after Heisman Trophy-winning Fernando Mendoza at Indiana and Oregon’s Dante Moore..
In 2025, his first year as a starter, Simpson threw for 3,567 yards, 30 touchdowns and five interceptions. Alabama made it to the SEC Championship Game and the College Football Playoffs.
Simpson led Alabama to a playoff win at Oklahoma in the first round before Alabama lost 38-3 in the quarterfinals against Indiana. He didn’t play that full game.
Simpson, who was a redshirt junior in 2025, got off to a strong start to the season and had thrown 21 touchdowns and just one interception through the Crimson Tide’s first nine games. Later in the year, he completed fewer than half of his passes in an SEC Championship Game loss to Georgia.
