Jonathan Chandler named Opelika Head Football Coach
Opelika City Schools selects Jonathan Chandler as the new head football coach for Opelika High School, pending approval by the Opelika City Board of Education. Superintendent Dr. Kevin Davis said, “We are excited to welcome Coach Chandler back to Opelika High School and our community. Throughout this process, it was important for us to find a leader who understands the value of building great men into great fathers, leaders, and citizens while also understanding the importance of maintaining and building upon the great tradition of the Opelika football program. Coach Chandler shares our vision for excellence, high expectations, and community pride, which we are confident will take our program to the next level.”
Chandler brings extensive experience in secondary education and athletics, including leadership roles as a head coach, offensive coordinator, and physical education department head. He most
recently served as Head Coach of Varsity Football at Montgomery Catholic Preparatory School. His previous experiences at Pike Road, Wetumpka High School, and Opelika High School include
Division I football, multiple conference and region championships, and recognition at the state and professional levels. He served Opelika City Schools for nearly a decade in multiple instructional and coaching roles, demonstrating a strong commitment to student-athlete development, academic success, and community engagement.
A graduate of Troy University, Chandler holds a Master of Science in Sport and Fitness Management and a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education. “It’s an honor to come back to Opelika and give back to the community that shaped me,” Chandler said. “Tiffany, Stallings, Spivey, and I are grateful for the opportunity to serve our students and represent this town with pride. Go Dawgs!” Coach Chandler and his wife Tiffany are both graduates of Opelika High School. They are the proud parents of daughters, Stallings and Spivey.
