The 2026 session of the Alabama Legislature is about to start, with Governor Kay Ivey preparing to present her annual State of the State Address.

The session starts tomorrow. Under state law, the session begins in January in election years so that lawmakers have time to finish their business in Montgomery before heading home to campaign. This year’s primaries are May 19.

As is tradition, the governor will present the State of the State Address on the first night of the session. This will be Gov. Ivey’s final address before she leaves office at the end of her term next January.

Her speech is scheduled to start at 6PM CST inside the Old House Chamber at the Alabama Capitol. Action 8 News will have the speech on our Facebook page, along with highlights and insight from Action 8 Political Analyst Steve Flowers that night.
