Aubrey Blackwell reintroduced as Montgomery Catholic head coach
Montgomery Catholic reintroduced Aubrey Blackwell as its head football coach Tuesday. He’s the man who led the Knights to their first-ever state championship game appearance.
Blackwell previously coached at Catholic from 2015 to 2020. He then took head coaching positions at Benjamin Russell, Jackson Academy in Mississippi and Saint James. Most recently, he served as offensive coordinator at Spanish Fort.
The coach said his family had prayed for an opportunity to return to Catholic. Those prayers were answered several days ago with a call from the school’s president and athletic director.
“When Mr. Costanza and Daniel Veres gave me a call a few days ago and asked me if it was time for my family and I to come home, it literally took a blink of an eye to my wife and to my children of ‘absolutely,'” Blackwell said.
“You don’t realize exactly how great a place was until you really haven’t been any other,” he said. “And you don’t know how special a place can be. And that’s what Montgomery Catholic is.”
