Montgomery man receives golden ticket on American Idol

A Montgomery native has received the iconic golden ticket on American Idol.

25-year-old singer Trew the Star appeared on the hit show Monday night.

Trew wowed judges Lionel Richie, Carrie Underwood and Luke Bryan by singing “Nothing Can Change This Love” by Sam Cooke.

During the audition, Trew talked about his struggles in life, but that he was able to persevere through his love for music.

Trew tells Action 8 that he auditioned for American Idol three separates times before finally being chosen to sing in front of the judges.

“It’s crazy just being around all the great singers,” said Trew. “It’s a space where you can definitely be different. A lot of places I feel like you have to be forced in a box, but with American Idol it’s a lot of different talent, a lot of different singers, you get to meet a lot of new people, you get to make a lot of friends. Of course, you get to see the judges, being around them and things of that nature, but overall it’s just been a good time.”

Trew the Star is one of five Alabamians who made it through the auditions this week.
