Marengo County man charged with murder

A Marengo County man has been charged with murder in the death of man who had been reported missing.

It began as a missing person’s case in Marengo County before becoming a homicide investigation in neighboring Greene County.

39-year-old Lazarus Green of the Gallion community was reported missing by his family earlier this month. The Major Crime Unit, made up of every law enforcement agency in the 17th Judicial Circuit had been looking for Green.

His body was found in Forkland, while his burned-out truck was recovered in Boligee.

District Attorney Rachel England told Action 8 News that investigators have arrested Jaquan Lewis Lee of Gallion, who is charged with murder in Green’s death. He is being held in the Greene County Jail.

England says this case was the first since the Major Crimes Unit was formed, which helped investigators cross jurisdictional lines without any issues.
