Fight outside Opelika restaurant leads to gunfire, police chase, arrests
OPELIKA, Ala. (WAKA) – A large fight outside an Opelika restaurant has led to three arrests and one person suffering a gunshot wound.
Opelika police say that just after 1:30 this morning, they got several calls about a large fight and shots fired outside the Wild Wing Cafe on Capps Way, which is just off U.S. Highway 280 near Interstate 85.
Police say when they arrived, they saw a vehicle speeding away and tried to stop it. The driver led officers on a short chase before they got the vehicle stopped on Interstate 85 about three miles from the restaurant, where police say they detained five people.
Around the same time, they say a person arrived at East Alabama Medical Center to be treated for a gunshot wound. They say the victim didn’t want to press charges.
Police say they found a car the the restaurant parking lot with several bullet holes. They say the person in the hospital is the car’s owner.
Police say they found a gun on the interstate, about a mile from where the chase ended. They say they believe the gun was thrown out of the vehicle during the chase.
Police have charged three of the five people who were in the vehicle:
• Devante Goodman, 28, of Auburn – charged with felony attempting to elude
• Ashton Williams, 19, of Auburn – charged with minor consumption of alcohol
• Stephen Harris, 26, of Auburn – served with an outstanding warrant through the Lee County Sheriff’s Office
