Hundreds bring their pets to Tuskegee University for annual animal health fair

Hundreds of people brought their pets to Tuskegee University for their 2026 Small Animal Health Fair Saturday.

Veterinary students worked with health professionals to give free examinations to those who brought four-legged family members. Physical examinations, heart worm tests, and fecal examination were all free of charge to customers.

Tuskegee University offered families low-cost vaccinations for rabies and influenza, among others. Families were also offered flea, tick, and heart worm preventative medications at a low cost as well.

“Our students are in training, so we have a variety of students here. Some of them are in their first year of veterinary school and all the way up to their fourth year of veterinary school, so we are training them to work with our veterinarians. This way they can get the experience they need to be successful veterinarians and day one veterinarians,” said Assistant Professor of Veterinary Dermatology, Tomeshia Hubbard.

“A lot of families just don’t have the income to be able to bring their dogs in for care at the cost that it is. It’s a great thing to make sure that dogs stay up to date on their shots, immunizations, and to get seen at a discounted price, which is awesome,” said Auburn resident, Tamikka Radford.

The event was held at the College of Veterinary Medicine.
