WETUMPKA, Ala. (WAKA) – The charges against a man arrested in connection to a weekend shooting in Wetumpka have been upgraded.

Maj. Josh Barfoot tells Action 8 News that it happened Sunday around 11:55 a.m. at a gas station in the 500 block of Coosa River Parkway.

Once officers arrived, they found a 21-year-old victim with multiple gunshot wounds. He was treated on the scene by Wetumpka Fire Department personnel before being transported to Baptist South with life-threatening injuries. Maj. Barfoot says the victim is currently in stable condition.

20-year-old Daveyun Stinson was taken into custody while on the scene and officers recovered the firearm used in the shooting. Stinson was initially charged with first degree assault. That charge has since been upgraded to attempted murder and reckless endangerment.

During the incident, multiple rounds were fired into two separate occupied dwellings and one unoccupied vehicle. The additional warrants are now first degree assault, discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling, discharging a firearm into an unoccupied vehicle and six counts of reckless endangerment.

Police say Stinson was out on bond for a prior shooting-related offense. As a result, his bond has been revoked.

Stinson is currently in the Elmore County Jail.
