Behind the Biscuits: Xavier Isaac

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA)- Before Xavier Isaac was known for what he does on the baseball field, he tried his hand at multiple sports including basketball and soccer. Isaac says his first love surprisingly wasn’t even baseball however, it was soccer.

“Honestly my first love wasn’t baseball it was soccer, and then honestly just started taking both baseball and basketball more seriously and then finally made that decision baseball was the one sport I’m really good at. So, it’s like alright I’ve got to take this really seriously, and I probably started taking it seriously probably at fourteen,” explains Isaac.

So, he buckled down and set his sights on baseball, and it paid off. At the conclusion of his high school career Isaac was headed to play baseball at one of the more successful college programs in the county, The University of Florida.

Isaac made it to Florida, and even began working out and attending summer classes, however his path was about to change when he received a very important phone call from his agent.

“I ended up having not like a draft party, but just had like my family over and a best friend over down in Florida, which my grandma lives probably like an hour and a half from Florida. So we went there for the draft night and just started watching. Then, my agent called me, probably a couple of picks before the Rays, and was like ‘hey you might go here, but we’ll let you know we’ll call you back.’ I didn’t get a call back, so I was like alright I’m not going, and then ended up seeing my name on the screen, and then that’s when everything happened. And of course, I’ve always wanted to be a pro baseball and major league player and that’s where I am right now, on the way to my dreams.”

His dreams became a reality in 2022 when he was drafted in the 1st round as the 29th overall pick.

So far this season Isaac is leading the Biscuits in home runs where he has tallied six through the first five series. Isaac also leading the butter and blue in runs (15), walks (20), on base percentage (.430), slugging percentage (.610), and OPS (1.040.)

Isaac is currently listed as 13th on the Rays Prospect List.
