Traffic stop in Troy leads to fentanyl trafficking arrests
TROY, Ala. (WAKA) – Two men are charged with trafficking fentanyl and other charges following a traffic stop in Troy.
Troy police say on Thursday, May 28, they conducted a traffic stop in the 1500 block of U.S. Highway 231 after seeing a vehicle with a switched license plate.
During the stop, officers say they smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle and developed probable cause to conduct a search. That led to the seizure of approximately 13 grams of suspected fentanyl, marijuana and methamphetamine, police say.
Police say 44-year-old Dexter Harris and 59-year-old Tyler Reed, both of Pike County, now face these charges:
• Trafficking Fentanyl – $500,000 bond
• Possession of Marijuana, 2nd Degree – $1,000 bond
Additionally, police say Reed was charged with the unlawful possession of a controlled substance, with a $1,500 bond.
Both are being held in the Pike County Jail, where they remain pending bond.
