AUBURN, Ala. (WAKA) – An Auburn University student has vanished in Japan while on vacation with his family.

A search is underway for 20-year-old Weston Higginbotham, who was last seen Friday, May 29, in Kyoto a city of around 1.5 million people.

He is a graduate of Spain Park High School in Hoover.

Higginbotham was last seen at a train station. His family is still in Japan, trying to track him down in a country with a language they don’t speak or understand.

“I need Japanese media contacts and I need for people to share my post to anybody that lives in Japan,” his mother Nancy Higginbotham said.  “That way, they can share it to their Japanese platforms, because our ultimate goal is to find our son. Weston is the most loving, wonderful person, and we just want to find him.”

While they are searching, Nancy Higginbotham says they’re worried about their younger son, who is with them in Japan.

“I specifically want to ask for prayers for my 18-year-old son, who just graduated from Spain Park. This is his graduation present, and I would like for people to really think about him as well, because this has been traumatizing for him.”
