Mobile man arrested in Andalusia on multiple charges after chase
ANDALUSIA, Ala. (WAKA) – Andalusia police say a Mobile man is in custody after he tossed evidence before he attempted to elude officers on a motorcycle and on foot.
41-year-old Brady Kirksey is charged with possession of controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, tampering with physical evidence, attempting to elude, resisting arrest and obstructing government operations using a false identity.
Andalusia officers attempted to stop Kirksey in the parking lot of Walmart after observing suspicious behavior. The officer then followed Kirksey onto Sanford Road.
Officials say Kirksey ignored the officer’s attempts to pull him over, but instead increased his speed. Kirksey almost lost control of the motorcycle as he approached Academy Drive, and was seen throwing items from the motorcycle and onto the roadway.
As the suspect passed Academy Drive, he pulled off the road, jumped off the motorcycle and ran into the back yard of a residence. The officer gave chase and ordered the suspect to stop.
Kirksey continue to run, and to toss items as he did.
When he reached the woods line, after an additional verbal warning, the officer used the taser, and successfully apprehended him.
Among the items the suspect threw were a backpack, motorcycle helmet, and clear plastic bag filled with a white crystal-like substance that the suspect later said was “ice,” a street name for methamphetamine.
Police say Kirksey also used his brother’s name when asked to identify himself, but was later recognized by an officer at the station, and also identified with facial recognition software.
Kirksey is currently in the Covington County Jail.
