Uniontown police arrest two suspects in Saturday shooting

Uniontown Police arrest two people suspected in a Saturday afternoon shooting after a community basketball tournament.

Police Chief Michael Kiser says 26 year old Sherman Deshuwn Cain of Uniontown — and a 16 year old juvenile are charged in the shooting.

He says the juvenile was at a basketball tournament at R.C. Hatch High School when he became afraid — because of the intimidating looks two men at the game were giving him.

“He called his homeboy and told him he may need some help,” Kiser said.

“A plan was devised. And the adult told him where to stand. So, he wouldn’t get hit during the shooting. They shot at the vehicle as it approached the stop sign. Two vehicles were shot into.”

Kiser says a mother and children were inside one of the vehicles. He says fortunately, no one was injured.

“They were both charged with discharging a firearm into an occupied vehicle times two. This type of violence is just, it’s not acceptable in our community. And it’s especially not acceptable after a youth basketball game at one of our high schools and close to our school,” said Kiser.

Both suspects are being held without bond pending an Anaiah’s Law hearing.
