Candidates revealed for Montgomery city council District 3 special election

MONTGOMERY, Ala (WAKA Action 8 News) – The City of Montgomery has released the final list of candidates who will appear on the special election ballot to fill the open Montgomery City County District 3 seat. The seat was formerly held by Marche Johnson.

The final ballot includes 15 qualified candidates.

The qualified candidates are:

  • Mark Bailey
  • Johnny Bannister
  • LaPawn Carter
  • Gregory Crawford
  • Kevin Elkins
  • Clarence Hampton
  • Jose Harris
  • Steven Lambert
  • Robert Marcus
  • Montaski McCoy
  • De’Anthony Powell
  • Johnnie Sankiey
  • Bibby Simmons
  • Michelle Summers

As Action 8 previously reported, the city council removed Johnson from her seat on June 23rd after learning that she had purchased a home in district 7 with a VA loan, which requires the military member to live in the residence. City councilors are required to live in the district that they represent.

Johnson had represented District 3 since 2021.

The special election to fill the seat will be held Tuesday, September 1, 2026.
