YMCA’s Before And After School Care Helps Families Balance Busy Schedules
MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) — Balancing work schedules with school hours can be a challenge for many families, and the YMCA of Greater Montgomery is working to make that task a little easier.
The organization’s Before & After School Program provides a safe, structured environment for students outside of regular school hours while helping working parents manage their daily schedules.
Kentrella Jones, the YMCA’s association director of impact, and Senior Program Director Johnathan Williams recently spoke with Action 8’s Estee Morrison about the program and its role in supporting families.
In addition to providing supervision, the program emphasizes homework assistance, healthy activities, character development and opportunities for students to have fun in a positive environment.
YMCA officials say all staff members are certified in CPR and first aid and receive training in child development and behavior guidance to help create a safe and nurturing setting for every child.
The program operates throughout the school year, including early dismissal days and select school breaks. Before-school care typically begins at 6:30 a.m., while after-school care is available until 6 p.m., although hours may vary by location.
Families can enroll at the Goodtimes Center, Cleveland Avenue YMCA and Grandview YMCA.
