Perry removed as Interim Selma Police Chief
From the West Alabama Newsroom–
The Selma Police Department is under new leadership tonight — after former interim Chief Michael Perry is relieved of duty.
The removal comes after Perry outlined a dysfunctional culture — and run-down conditions at the police department — in two Action 8 News stories.
Perry was ordered to turn in his keys and all assigned police department equipment — although his contract was not due to expire until September 11th.
We reached out to Mayor Johnny Moss, III — for a comment concerning Perry’s dismissal — but Moss was not available — and we have not heard back from his office at this time.
Action 8 News has learned that former chief John Brock has now taken over the leadership — and day to day operations at the department.
This all comes with the city in the middle of a search to find a permanent new chief.
A four-member law enforcement committee has now reviewed a dozen applicants for the job.
It’ll submit a short list of the top candidates to city leaders.
The city council will then hold public interviews for the finalists.
