People in Millbrook remember victims of 9/11 terrorist attacks

MILLBROOK, Ala. (WAKA) – People gathered to remember the victims of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks at the economic development center in Millbrook.

Millbrook Mayor Al Kelley proclaimed that 9/11 will now be known as Patriot Day in the city.

Kelley said that today has special meaning for him because he was serving as mayor of Millbrook when 9/11 happened. He said he wants young people who were born after the attacks to understand the significance of the tragic events that took place that day.

“I was watching TV this morning, and they mentioned the fact that 1/3 of our population does not remember 25 years ago because they’re not 25 years old. It kind of hit me and I saw all these kids out here today, and it just made me feel so good. We need to teach them, we need to talk about the day, let them know what happened so that they observe this day every year from now on because this was a tough day for America,” Mayor Kelley said.
