Zoobilation offers night of fun, food and drinks to raise money for new reptile house

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WAKA) – Who says raising money has to be tame? The wildest party in town took over the Montgomery Zoo for its largest fundraiser of the year.

Zoobilation offered guests a chance to enjoy food samplings from restaurants, along with beverages and live entertainment. There was also a silent auction.

The guests also got to come through the zoo’s new multi-million dollar entrance complex which opened earlier this week following a year of construction.

Over the years, Zoobilation has raised money for new additions and improvements to the zoo. This year’s event continues to raise money for a new reptile building.

“We want to keep up with all the major zoos in the country, and we plan to build a brand new reptile facility from top to bottom,” Candy Capel, the president of the Montgomery Zoological Board told Action 8 News. “It’s going to be an exciting adventure, an exciting addition to the Montgomery Zoo, so we’re very excited about that.”

Action 8 Meteorologist Ben Lang presented a check for $15,000 on behalf of Action 8 to help with these efforts. The station is a Diamond Level sponsor of the zoo.
