The Ride bus tour stops in Selma to mark historic Freedom Rides

The Ride bus tour made a stop in the Selma today — marking the 65th anniversary of the Freedom Rides.
The event is also an effort to fire-up area voters ahead of the upcoming mid-term election.
Organizers hosted a voter rally — that included guest speakers — music — and a community art project.
The bus tour features a coalition of organizations that are retracing the route of the 1961 Freedom Riders.
One of the main goals of the initiative is to stress the importance of participating in the election process.
“We want to motivate people to get out and vote and also to understand the deep history of what it’s cost people to be able to allow all Americans to be included in the We the People when we say we in this country,” said Doug Pagitt with Vote Common Good.
The mural being painted at the event — was created by two Selma school students.
