Huntsville vehicle manufacturing plant rolls out its one millionth vehicle
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. (WAKA) – When we think of car production in Alabama, we usually think of Montgomery’s Hyundai plant, which has produced vehicles since 2005.
But another Alabama car plant is reaching an important milestone. The Mazda Toyota Manufacturing plant in Huntsville has rolled out its one millionth vehicle.
The plant makes the Mazda CX-50 and the Toyota Corolla Cross SUVs. The plant began building them in 2021 and has 4,500 employees.
“We had just dirt, to all the training through the COVID process, to watching the first machines coming in, to watching the first trial vehicles coming in, to watching the first team members learn to actually build a car, so watching that first vehicle roll off to this 1 million vehicle roll off is a big accomplishment and pride to me,” says Mitchell Hewlett, the MTM Production Manager.
Besides this plant and Montgomery’s Hyundai plant, our state also has Mercedes-Benz and Honda assembly plants, making Alabama one of the top states for auto production.
