A Montgomery County Commissioner is the third person who’s offically made his announcement to run for mayor of Montgomery. So with more names on your ballot this year all three candidates are speaking to us about why you should vote for them.

Montgomery County Commissioner, Dan Harris, made his announcement right here in front of city hall. He’s up against former congressman, Artur Davis, and the mayor incumbent, Todd Strange.

Harris, says now that he’s in the race for mayor of Montgomery, he plans to focus his campaign on economic development, education, violent crime, community development and the city’s fiscal issues.

“My leadership  involves inclusiveness. I believe in setting priorities  and making decisions based on the wants, desires, the needs of the people,” Said Harris.

Strange says what people need are jobs. He believes he’s the candidate that can provide that.

“Because at the end of the day, jobs handle all those other things we’ve got some specific ideas  that we are going to talk about on the education side of the question,” Said Strange.

More jobs and better education is also on the mind of Artur Davis. He says being a former congressman, will help Montgomery get positive national attention.

“Only one person in this race is going to have the ability to build national connections, to build connections around the state of Alabama to really make Montgomery a serious competitor for the jobs of the future,” Said Davis.

Qualifying beings July 7.
