In the third day of the legislative session, lawmakers are facing a gloomy budget outlook.

And once lawmakers go through the tough task of balancing the budget, it then becomes State Treasurer Young Boozer’s task to manage the funds. He was in Pike County today speaking to the next financial generation. He met with students at Pike County High School’s Business and Finance Academy.

And as lawmakers try to balance a budget with an estimated $700 million deficit in the state’s general fund, Boozer says this is a good lesson for students.

Young Boozer, (R) State Treasurer said, “The last four to eight years during this really difficult economic time you have to manage within your means, you have to get your own house in order and sometimes that means making decisions that have been around for a long time. We are in that situation right now.”

The governor has laid out his proposal for a $541 million tax increase. Now it’s in lawmakers hands to debate.
