Windy with Heavy Rain and Storms
SOUTHERN SOAKER: Today and tomorrow will feature a soaking rain for Alabama. There will be some thunder mixed in at times but severe weather is not expected. Heavy rain will be a good bet before a cold front will push the rain out of the area during the day on Friday. Rainfall amounts should average 2-5 inches across Central Alabama. For this reason a flash flood watch is in effect for much of Alabama. Also a wind advisory is effect for today as winds will be gusty at 15-30 mph.
WEEKEND WEATHER: More rain is unfortunately in the forecast for the final weekend of 2018. A southwesterly flow across the Southeast will be sending waves of showers over the area on both Saturday and Sunday. Highs both days will be in the 60s.
MUSIC CITY BOWL: For Auburn fans heading to Nashville for their bowl game with Purdue: rain “should” end during the morning, but there are signs it could linger into the actual game itself. Temperatures from kickoff until the fourth quarter should hover in the upper 50s. Like here, Thursday will be wet.
ORANGE BOWL: Alabama and Oklahoma fans in Miami for the College Football Playoff game in the Orange Bowl Saturday evening will have some fine tropical winter weather. Highs in the 80s and lows in the 60s to near 70 and only a few tropical showers. Rain chances during the game are only about 20% with temperatures falling from 76F to 72F by the end of the game.
INTO NEXT WEEK: Unfortunately, the wet pattern continues to be in place, keeping rain chances elevated through at least midday on Wednesday. That means New Year’s Eve will be wet at times with highs in the mid-50s to the lower 60s. Monday night continues with those rain chances through the strike of midnight and into the early morning hours on Tuesday. Temperatures will be dropping into the mid-40s to the lower 50s for the overnight lows. The good news is that rain activity looks to move out of the area by midday on Wednesday and we finally get a chance to dry out. Afternoon highs will be in the lower 50s to the mid-60s.
Have a great day!
