Another historic weekend comes to a close in Selma.
Today was the last day of the reenactments and events for the 150th anniversary of the Battle of Selma.
That was one of the closing battles of the Civil War.
Organizers say it’s important to continue the family friendly stack of events to inspire the younger generation to keep the history going.
Some of the approximately 1,400 reenactors grew up watching this same event.
Tepper Middleton, a reenactor from Selma said, “It gives you the perspective about what the country was like at the time, divided against itself and reasons you know ‘hey this is what it was like and we don’t want to go back to that again’ so we can always work our problems out.”
This was the largest group of reenactors in the more than 20 year history of the Battle of Selma commemoration.
