In the month since more than 100 Troy residents learned they’d be displaced because of the major road project and the addition of a Publix grocery store, local community groups are doing what they can to help.

The Christian Love Community Development Center opened up it’s food pantry and clothing closet, as well as connected the residents with the Alabama Rural Coalition for the Homeless (ARCH). They are able to provide rental and utility expense support for those that qualify.

A lot of the residents at the Hillside Mobile Home Park are low income, and even though the property owner’s offered some financial assistance, some say it’s not enough.

Tameka Wallace, a Hillside resident said, “It means a lot especially to see that the Christian life Center they actually reached out to us and “it’s sad that we’ve reached out to our own mayor and wasn’t able to get anywhere.”

Adrienne Wallace, a Hillside resident of 8 months said, “They came right in like angels out of the sky and they got everything rolling for me and they spoke with my new landlord where I’m currently trying to move to and I don’t have anything else to worry about.”

The ARCH program was able to meet with more than 40 people from Hillside Mobile Home Park to see if they qualify for rental or utility financial help.
