The following article comes from the Montgomery Biscuits:
MONTGOMERY, Ala. – For a second consecutive night, and the eleventh time this season, the Biscuits (14-15) found themselves on the wrong side of a one-run game falling 8-7 to the Birmingham Barons (14-14) on Saturday night at Riverwalk Stadium. Montgomery has now dropped two in a row after winning the first two games of the five-game series.
Right-hander Austin Pruitt (2-3) started on the mound for the Biscuits, but allowed three runs in his first two innings of work, and did not look himself as the Barons jumped out to an early 3-0 lead. Pruitt finished with 5.0 innings of ten-hit baseball, surrendering four runs and striking out the same amount in his third loss of the season. The shaky start put the Biscuits behind early and they spent the rest of the game playing catch-up.
Frankie Montas (0-0) was solid on the other side for Birmingham going 4.1 innings allowing three runs and striking out one despite a fastball that topped out at 99 mph. J.B. Wendelken (2-1) came on to relieve Montas once his pitch count of 75 had been reached and tallied his second win.
The big story tonight, however, was not about arms, but rather Barons shortstop Tim Anderson who hit for the cycle. The nimble White Sox prospect tripled on the first pitch of the game, singled in the fourth, doubled in the sixth, and then sent one into orbit over the left field fence to complete the impressive feat in the seventh. The homerun was a three-run shot, and put the game just out of reach for the Biscuits who rallied in the ninth on a two-run moon-shot by Daniel Robertson that made it 8-7, but could not score after that.
It will come down to the rubber game tomorrow at 2:05PM-the battle between Alabama’s capital city and its largest-as Bradin Hagens (1-2) takes on Tyler Danish (3-0).
