Gov. Denies Claims of Removing Confederate Items from State Gift Shop

Governor Bentley denies claims that he removed items from the state gift shop. This after state auditor Jim Zeigler released info saying the governor ordered items to be removed from the shop. Alabama State Auditor Jim Zeigler says Gov. Robert Bentley quietly removed Confederate items from the Goat Hill Museum Store inside Alabama‘s historic state capitol. “This political correctness continues. The governor again did this without public input or notice to the media,” Zeigler said Thursday from his office in the capitol. “He even removed confederate books.” “When I found out he was going to do this, I quickly had my assistant Hope Curry walk downstairs to the museum store and try to buy some valuable miniature die cast confederate soldiers. We were too late. They are gone.” “The governor is trying to revise history. He is trying to erase a part of our heritage.” “The slogan of the museum store will have to change. Right now it reads: ‘The most unique gifts under one historic roof.‘ They need to add: ‘Except for Confederate history items.‘” “The governor and his advisors are purging our confederate history,” Zeigler said. Again, the governor’s press secretary says the claims are false.
