A Montgomery woman is robbed at gun point over the holiday weekend and it all happened in the parking lot of a WalMart. Now her son is urging women not to go there late at night.
61-year-old Shirley Dolman was robbed at gunpoint at the WalMart on Eastern Boulevard. It happened around 11:15 Saturday night. The suspect pulled a gun on her not once, but twice.
“The second time he came back he was kind of just aggressive. I was scared.”
Her son William Whitlow is now urging women NOT to shop at the big box store after dark.
“It’s not safe. It’s just not safe to be over here at nighttime.”
Dolman’s purse was stolen before the thief hopped in a car and was driven away. She says the two headed for a nearby apartment complex.
“I just thank God that he did not shoot me,” she said. “He didn’t get upset or anything.”
“She’s terrified now because they have her address, they have her driver’s license, they have her keys, they have the keys to her house, they have the keys to her car,” Whitlock explained.
We contacted WalMart, who emailed us a statement that reads in part:
“We have several measures in place to ensure a safe shopping environment and our asset protection team does a great job in identifying people who break the law in our stores. Walmart is the wrong place to attempt these crimes and we have shared our surveillance footage with local authorities to assist in their ongoing investigation.”
Several other incidents have happened at this WalMart, including an officer involved late last year. And some are now considering Whitlock’s plea not to shop there at night, which has been shared on facebook more than 700 times.
“So much happening at this Wal-Mart,” said Montgomery resident Tess Smith. “Every time you turn around, it’s always something.”
“I like to go in the daytime at Wal-Mart, unless I’m with somebody, then I’ll go at night,” said resident Robin Riley.
Whitlow says he’s thankful his mother is still alive and says he’s fed up with the crime in Montgomery.
“This stuff is killing our neighborhoods. No one wants to tell anything until something happens to them.”
“First thing, don’t go that late if it’s not a life threatening situation, something you have to have,” Dolman advised. “Wait until it’s daylight to go to the store.”
We contacted Montgomery police about this incident. They say right now, there is no one in custody and the investigation is ongoing.
