ACTION 8 UPDATE: Reward increased in hopes of solving cold case murder in Opelika
ACTION 8 UPDATE: Central Alabama CrimeStoppers has now raised a reward to $5,000 in the hopes of solving a cold case murder in Opelika.
On September 12, 2009, Opelika police were called to the 1300 Block of South Long Street where they found the body of 18-year-old Martez Latrell White laying in a shallow ditch with a gunshot wound to the upper torso.
Police say it appeared that White had been there for several hours. A medical exam was performed that pinpointed the cause of death as a gunshot wound to the chest.
Police say White was the victim of homicide.
White was last seen on the evening of September 11, 2009. He was wearing a green, yellow and red striped shirt, blue jeans and white tennis shoes.
“Our hope is that new information will come out that will help detectives be able to solve this case,” White’s mother Stephanie Dawson said. “It’s been 14 years of not knowing and his daughter and son growing up without their father. We hope the community comes forward with information so we can get justice for Martez.”
If you have any information regarding the murder of White, please call Central Alabama CrimeStoppers at (334) 215-STOP. You can remain anonymous.
