Court documents: Montgomery judge stabbed multiple times before being shot

23hardwickjohnnyjudgeCourt documents obtained by Action 8 News release new details into the shooting of a Montgomery judge.

According to the complaint, 36-year-old Khalfani Hardwick stabbed his father, Circuit Judge Johnny Hardwick, multiple times in the neck and face before shooting him in the face. Police say Khalfani Hardwick fled the scene shortly after.

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office tells Action 8 News that deputies responded to a 911 call around 1:00 p.m. Saturday from Circuit Judge Johnny Hardwick’s home in the 4600 block of Vanderbilt Drive.

23hardwickkhalfani022524Upon arrival, deputies say they learned that Judge Hardwick had been assaulted, shot and seriously injured by his son, Khalfani Hardwick. Deputies immediately searched the area and located the suspect’s abandoned vehicle on Trotman Road. A short time later, deputies say they found located the suspect on U.S Highway 231, and he was taken into custody without incident.

Khalfani A. Hardwick has been charged with Domestic Violence in the First Degree (Class A Felony) and with Certain Persons Forbidden to Possess a Firearm. He is currently being held at the Montgomery County Detention Facility without bond.

Action 8 News checked Khalfani Hardwick’s criminal history. Documents show that in March of 2014, he was charged with attempted murder after police say he shot a 32-year-old man in the back of the head during an altercation in the 5600 block of Carmichael Road. Documents show he pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of assault in the second degree in 2017.

Judge Hardwick was taken to a hospital with injuries that were described as serious. No word on his condition at this time.
