Ribbon cutting held for renovations and expansion at Emory Folmar YMCA Soccer Complex

A ribbon cutting ceremony was held Wednesday for the renovation and expansion of the Emory Folmar YMCA Soccer Complex in East Montgomery.

Made possible by the ARPA funds, the Montgomery YMCA says the upgrades gives them the opportunity to reach more kids and families in the community.

Some of the upgrades include a new turf and a new player shelter on one of its fields, outdoor fields that can accommodate 7 versus 7 up to 11 versus 11 players, new locker rooms, the ability to play flag football and new turf in the indoor stadium.

Officials say the new renovations will also allow them to have adaptive sports, such as TOPSoccer. TOPSoccer is a recreational sports program for children and adults with intellectual, emotional, or physical disabilities offered only through local US Youth Soccer-affiliated soccer clubs.

The Emory Folmar YMCA Soccer Complex has 6 Bermuda fields, 4 turf fields, one multi-purpose court, an indoor arena and LED lighting on every field.

The facility also serves as home to the Alabama FC South team – Montgomery’s first semi-pro soccer team.

The soccer complex is located at 300 Brown Springs Road in Montgomery.
