A Montgomery nonprofit is getting a big boost thanks to a grant from a national home improvement store.
Lowe’s Hometowns is awarding a $120,000 grant to Friendship Mission, Inc.
Friendship Mission is one of 100 nonprofits nationwide to receive a grant to make physical improvements as a part of Lowe’s largest-ever community impact program.
As part of the grant, Friendship Mission says it will restore the food storage pantry, one of the kitchens, and one of the dining halls from which thousands of meals are served every year.
Executive Director Tara Davis says the grant will allow them to make much-needed improvements to their shelters. It will help them better serve those who are homeless and hungry in the community. Davis says food service will become more efficient and safer for emergency shelter residents and the Friendship Mission staff.
Lowe’s Hometowns program is a five-year, $100 million commitment to rebuild and revitalize community spaces nationwide. Since launching in 2022, the signature grant program has renovated 149 community centers, affordable housing facilities, shelters, and food pantries; refurbished 15 first responder and veteran/military family facilities; and built and improved 54 community gardens, parks, and playgrounds – among many other impactful projects.
This is the third year of Lowe’s Hometowns project commitment, which will benefit 87 communities across 44 states and Washington, D.C.
