Flood Watch begins Wednesday afternoon
The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch for Montgomery County, as well as other locations near and east of Interstate 65, beginning Wednesday afternoon and continuing into early Friday morning. Periods of heavy rain are expected, along with scattered thunderstorms. A few storms during the day Wednesday could be capable of producing damaging winds.
Tropical Storm Helene is still expected to strengthen into a major hurricane before coming ashore in northern Florida by late Thursday. The most likely area for a direct landfall will be east of Panama City along Florida’s Gulf Coast. Sustained winds in the Montgomery area could reach 25 miles per hour or stronger late Thursday and Friday, as Helene moves inland through Georgia.
