University of Alabama freshman killed in New Orleans attack

The University of Alabama has announced that a freshman student was among those killed in the attack in New Orleans on New Year’s Day morning.

University President Stuart Bell announced the death of Kareem Badawi, saying “I grieve alongside family and friends of Kareem in their heartbreaking loss.”

Bell said resources are available to grieving students by calling (205) 348-2461 or by visiting bamacares@ua.edu.

Badawi’s father Belal said on Facebook, “We ask Allah Almighty to shower his mercy on him, and give us patience and strength to overcome this.”

According to AL.com, Kareem Badawi started at the University of Alabama in the fall of 2023, after graduating from high school in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
