Montgomery’s Habitat for Humanity remembers life of former President Jimmy Carter

Montgomery’s Habitat for Humanity is remembering the life and service of former President Jimmy Carter.

On Wednesday, they joined other Habitat for Humanity organizations around the globe in honoring the countless contributions  Carter made to the organization and to Habitat homeowners for nearly 40 years.

Organizers raised a wall with a door to symbolize the many doors of opportunity that he helped make possible.

The public was invited to pay personal tributes to President Carter by signing the wall and door with their name and a personal message.

“I feel blessed to have had the opportunity to work for President Carter at the Carter Center and to see up close and personal how much he was committed always to humanitarian efforts to be able to come full circle and now able to celebrate the life and the impact that he had on the world. Habitat wouldn’t have it’s a great voice without him,” Susan Johnson, the executive director of Montgomery’s Habitat for Humanity told Action 8 News.

The Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter work projects built more than 4,000 homes in the U.S.  and 13 other countries.

Former President Carter died on December 29 at the age of 100.
