Montgomery United names first-ever head coach

The YMCA of Greater Montgomery and Montgomery United FC (MUFC) are thrilled to announce the appointment of Tate Dean as the club’s first Head Coach, ahead of the 2025 USL League Two season. Tate brings a wealth of coaching experience, including his current role as Assistant Head Coach at the University of Alabama Huntsville (UAH). His career also includes assistant coaching positions at Faulkner University and Auburn University Montgomery (AUM).

“We are extremely pleased to name Tate as our first Head Coach for Montgomery United FC,” said Manny Sanchez, General Manager and Sporting Director. “He has deep local ties, having coached at two local universities, high school, and club soccer, and he played his collegiate soccer at AUM. Tate will bring passion, experience, and leadership to build a competitive team that all of our supporters will be proud of.”

Dean expressed his gratitude and excitement about joining the club. “I want to thank Manny Sanchez and the YMCA of Greater Montgomery for giving me this opportunity,” said Dean. “It is a privilege to lead the inaugural USL League Two season for Montgomery United FC. I’m excited to make history in this city with a team of both local and college players to compete with the best in the South-Central Division.”

Coach Tate will be in town this coming weekend to oversee the first open tryouts for Montgomery United FC, scheduled for January 11-12, 2025, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the Emory Folmar YMCA Championship Stadium.

The team is set to kick off its 2025 season in May and all YMCA of Greater Montgomery members will receive a free ticket to the home games.
