ACTION 8 UPDATE: Johnston Taylor, the man who was sentenced in the death of Auburn University sports announcer Rod Bramblett and his wife, has been moved to Kilby Prison near Montgomery to serve his sentence for child pornography possession.

Action 8 News has confirmed that Taylor was moved to the prison from the Lee County Jail, where he will serve 601 days.

Taylor was sentenced on March 15, 2024, to three consecutive 10-year sentences, split to serve one year each for a total of three years of imprisonment. At sentencing, the Court assessed 494 days of jail credit, leaving the 601 days to serve.

The earliest he can be released is March 14, 2026.

Taylor was 16 when investigators say he crashed into Rod and Paula Bramblett in Auburn in 2019. Rod Bramblett was well known for his work announcing Auburn University sporting events.

In 2021, a judge sentenced Taylor for their deaths, but details of that sentence weren’t released because he had been granted youthful offender status. Taylor faced a maximum sentence of three years.

Court records showed Taylor was speeding on the night of May 25, 2019, when he slammed into the back of the Brambletts’ SUV. The wreck happened at the intersection of Shug Jordan Parkway and West Samford Avenue in Auburn.

Since that time, prosecutors say Taylor violated his parole and tested positive for marijuana. In 2023, he pleaded guilty to a drug-test related charge. That was after Auburn police arrested him on charges of child pornography possession.
