Montgomery City Council approves gas tax increase
The Montgomery City Council voted Tuesday to raise the oil and gas tax by three cents.
The council voted 6-3 to raise the tax from seven cents to 10.
The money earned from the increase will be used for roads and additional infrastructure.
Some of the expenditures include employee salaries that directly deal with paving, streetlights and traffic signals, curbs, gutters, bridges, speed bumps and paving.
District 8 City Councilman Glen Pruitt was one of the councilors to vote against the tax increase because he wanted it to be used specifically for just paving roads.
Council members say the increase will general an additional $3 million.
