ADOC Corrections Officer Trainee arrested for attempting to smuggle contraband

A former ADOC Corrections Officer Trainee has been arrested for attempting to smuggle contraband into a prison facility.
Alabama Department of Corrections officials say on Friday, Tommy Middleton was arrested for attempting to smuggle approximately 212 grams of marijuana and two cell phones into the Fountain Correctional Facility in Atmore.
Middleton was placed in the Escambia County Jail and charged with Possession of Marijuana 1st degree, Promoting Prison Contraband 2nd degree, Attempting to Commit a Controlled Substance Crime, Resisting Arrest and Obstructing Governmental Operations
ADOC says the investigation is ongoing and further charges may be pending.
Less than 24 hours before this arrest, ADOC says a joint contraband interdiction operation was conducted at Fountain CF by the K-9, Intelligence and Communications Services, and Men’s Services Divisions, and the Corrections Emergency Response Team. The operation resulted in the removal of contraband.
