Residents React to State Park Closings in Dallas Co.

From the West Alabama Newsroom–  Four of the five state parks being shut down later this month are located in west Alabama — and residents aren’t very happy about it.

Residents in Dallas County say Paul Grist State Park is one of the few places left in the community where families can spend quality time together.

State park officials say the parks chosen to be closed have consistently lost money over the past several years.

“There’s ways that you know, if the government wants to keep it open for the people and that’s what a park is for you know, a state park is for the people,” said David Leemon.

State parks in Wilcox , Hale and Choctaw counties are also being shut down.

Several other state parks will reduce staff and their hours of operation.
