More Repairs, Upgrades Coming To Wastewater Treatment Plant

Another round of emergency repairs will be done at Troy’s wastewater treatment plant. This is the second aerator to break due to age since September.

The Troy city council allowed an emergency bid approval to replace it in the next seven to ten days. Aerators are needed to help meet state requirements – not acting fast enough could hurt the environment.

The plant is about 20 years old and the city recently secured $2 million in state funding to make needed repairs at the plant.

Troy Utilities Water and Sewer Superintendent Mike Davis said, “It is imperative that we meet out ADEM requirements on our permit in order to make sure that what we are discharging into Walnut Creek is good for the aquatic life, good for animals just good for the stream. So it is imperative that the new aeration and the upgrade all goes along with what we are dumping into Walnut Creek.”

Upgrades to the plant will start this summer. The plant treats about 3 and a half million gallons a day.
