Derrick Ansley to host third annual free Driven Athletes Football Camp
Former Tallassee and Troy football standout Derrick Ansley is returning to his hometown Saturday to host his third annual Driven Athlete’s Football Camp.
The current Green Bay Packers passing game coordinator will hold the free camp from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at J.E. “Hot” O’Brien Stadium in Tallassee, welcoming boys and girls ages 5 to 14 along with their families.
The former Huntingdon, Alabama and Tennessee coach says he wants kids to have fun while learning the game of football. Campers will work on skills, play airball and compete to be the fastest man.
Current Green Bay Packers players will be there to work with the kids, plus there will be some surprise guests speaking as well.
Ansley says last year’s camp created incredible memories, and he’s excited to build new ones this year.
“The fastest man competition. We had a lot of guys straining, competing, having a good time. That was a really, really good experience for those kids,” Ansley said. “Then, the rain. Having a rain delay. Some of those kids first time they ever played and then stopped, started again so those experiences are something they can take with ’em forever.”
The camp holds special meaning for Ansley, who grew up playing in the area.
“I remember being a little kid and playing in the Tallassee Youth Football League. And that experience, that time, helped mold me when I got up to middle school and high school,” he said. “So be able to touch kids at that grown level, this is something that I think can impact ’em.”
The free camp includes T-shirts, lunch, snow cones, hydration and gift bags.
