Montgomery man sentenced to federal prison for illegal gun possession
A Montgomery man has been sentenced to 14 years in federal prison for illegal gun possession.
Acting U.S. Attorney Kevin Davidson said 33-year-old Taboris Ladale Mock has been sentenced for illegally having guns as a convicted felon. The sentence was handed down Tuesday following Mock’s guilty plea to two counts of unlawful firearm possession.
There is no parole in the federal system.
According to his plea agreement and other court records, at approximately 3:25AM on September 28, 2024, Montgomery County Sheriff’s deputies responded to reports of gunfire in the parking lot of a business on Wetumpka Highway. Witnesses said they saw up to six people exchanging gunfire following an altercation.
Davidson said surveillance video showed Mock firing a gun toward a vehicle in the parking lot before fleeing the scene. Investigators later recovered 24 shell casings from the area.
Deputies found out that a person inside the vehicle Mock fired on had been taken to a hospital with a gunshot wound, where the victim later died.
Court records show on October 23, 2024, agents used a search warrant at Mock’s home and recovered a 9mm handgun.
This case was brought as a part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program bringing together all levels of law enforcement and the communities they serve to reduce violent crime and make our neighborhoods safer for everyone.
