Covington County crash leaves one dead, 7 injured

A two-vehicle crash in Covington County has claimed the life of a Tennessee woman and injured seven others.

The crash happened around 12:50 p.m. Sunday on Alabama 55 near the 42 mile marker, approximately four miles northwest of Red Level.

Troopers say 74-year-old Dessie Medley, of Speedwell, Tennessee, was fatally injured when the car she was a passenger in was struck by another vehicle. Medley was pronounced dead on the scene.

The driver and passenger of the other vehicle were both injured and taken to Andalusia Health for treatment treatment. In addition,  a 13-year-old and 16-year-old, who were also both passengers in the same vehicle, were also injured and transported to a local area hospital for medical treatment.

ALEA says the driver of the first vehicle, as well as two other passengers, were also injured and taken to Andalusia Health for medical treatment.

Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) Highway Patrol Division are investigating the cause of the crash.
