Families flock to splash pads to beat the heat
Summers are always hot in Alabama, but with temperatures now reaching close to triple digits, parents are flocking to splash pads with their children in order to cool off.
Action 8 News went to the splash pad at Pratt Park in Prattville. Parents told us it’s important to be active during the day, but with the hotter temperatures, it’s also important to use plenty of sunscreen and to drink water.
“It was hot today, and we figured you know get them out of the house get them out to the splash pad,” Paige Byrd, a parent, said. “It’s my friend’s birthday, so we didn’t want to be locked up in the house, but it’s way too hot to take them to the park. They are going to get burnt to a crisp.”
“It’s somewhere where I can take the kids to cool off for today, have a little fun. They always just need to get out of the house for a little bit, so I figured this was a perfect opportunity to take them out let them just cool off,” parent Shelby Holloway said.
“We make sure to put on lots of sunscreen, so we don’t get absolutely cooked outside. A lot of times they wear a hats, sun hats, and they all have rash guards on,” parent Lauren Kiefer said.
“She puts sunscreen on me — a bunch of sunscreen on me — because I get sunburn easily. It’s just super special because you get to make new friends and have fun in the water,” Evie Kiefer said.
The Pratt Park splash pad is open Monday-Friday from 8AM-8PM. It’s at 256 Doster Street, next to Pratt Pool.
